Weddings

Jon's friend from Michigan got married today, and we went to his reception.  They had a photo shoot area where we could get photo booth style pics.  They printed out one to leave with them as memorabilia and a kind of guest book, and we got to keep the other!  It was a fun night, and fun to meet a friend of Jon's.

The Pool

Another pool evening!

It was carb night, so we took it with us to the pool!  Pizza and crazy bread for all!

That's Jon up there on the top platform...

and him jumping off!  It's funny that the instinctive body reaction is to have windmilling arms and legs as you plummet!

Jon talked me into going off the shortest platform...and it took me forever to gather the courage.  When I finally did, I did NOT like it.  I felt like I fell forever, and I squeezed my eyes shut so I didn't know when the water was coming, and even with my nose plugged, water went seriously straight up to my brain.  It was immensely uncomfortable!  I've tried it once, and now I know I will not be doing it again!!!

Oquirrh Mountain Temple

We were a bit early getting out to Uncle Pete's house for Sunday dinner tonight, so we headed over to the Oquirrh Mountain temple to wander around on the grounds before dinner.  We haven't been doing very well with our intentions to have picnics at all the temples...there's still plenty of summer left, but it's flying by already!

Jordan's Birthday

It's Jordan's birthday, and we are all working together to have a big dinner of food he really likes, and Jon found him a present with a bit of direction from Alicia, so we have that to give him, too.  We have obtained a beef tenderloin from Costco, and will be cutting it for filets and using the Sous Vide to cook them to perfection.

Look at those steaks!

The girls were happy to be included in the family gathering at Tara's house, and they were charged with bringing out Jordan's gift.

It's nice to spend time with family (to be!) and celebrate!

The Smart Kids!!

Today we met up with Meghan and the kids to play at a splash pad.  Ella was sad that Leiden is at camp, but fun was had by all!  I even got a sunburn on my leg below my shorts.  Ugh.

Jon had a shipment of his protein powder sent here and Mac was quite surprised at the amounts he orders!

Today was an enjoyable day, made much more so by shipping off the seating charts!

Crunch Time and Girls' Camp

Leiden left this morning for her very first Girls' Camp!  She is excited and also a tad bit nervous not knowing what to expect and being so new.  I took her over to the church where they were meeting and I think she'll be fine.

I have been having some serious issues with completing this particular order I'm working on for someone's wedding.  It's seriously stressing me out.  It's an enormous seating chart, like 18x24, and that means the entire thing has to be perfect.  If I mess up on the 150th name, I have to redo the entire poster.  It is causing anxiety, and then the more anxiety I feel, the more likely I am to make more mistakes.  Add to that my general tendency to procrastinate, and I'm in a bit of trouble today.  I keep making mistakes, and having to start over.  :(  The more mistakes, the more flustered I get.

Finally this evening it was gymnastics, and Jon offered to take the girls up to the gym and bring them back when they were done so I could have some uninterrupted working time.  And I took a little break, a few deep breaths, and finally it worked!  It also helped that if a mistake is small enough, it can be SCRATCHED OFF WITH A RAZOR.  This changed everything and alleviated the stress of perfection.

So finally I was plugging along.

And then finally I was done with one of them with only a minor mistake or two that could be addressed with the razor.  I am SO GLAD this worked out.  It was close and I was terrified I'd have to let the woman down.

Jon was a lifesaver today, helping with the girls and being encouraging to me.  They will be shipped out tomorrow!

Jon took his little shrinky dink key chains to work and hung them.  Each girl drew a picture of themselves, and one other item.  Leiden drew a watermelon slice, as Jon loves watermelon.  I honestly can't remember what Mac drew, and Mimi drew him a bird.

He has also gotten all our pictures from the Valentine's Day gift on his bulletin board at work.  Super cute!

This afternoon Leiden and her friend had quite the stand.  They had ice cream, and drinks, and all sorts of treats.  We set up the shade awning for them, and hoped for the best!

Unfortunately, they did not have many visitors.  I think it was just a bad time of day, or else people are thinking they've spent enough money in the Macdonald driveway!

Tonight was carb night, and I tried my hand at making liege waffles, like the waffle place.  They were tasty, but left a SERIOUS mess in the waffle iron.  The sugar just melts and gets rock hard in there.  I am dreading cleaning it!  Next time I think we will go buy them!

This year we looked for other options than the normal pool we get a pass to, and found Cottonwood Heights Rec Center to be a good choice!  We got our passes here this summer.  The price is comparable, but there is much more to do here that gives it interest.  There are two slides, a zero entry with little tiny slides and sprinklers, as well as a large general swim area that goes from shallow to 6' deep.  To top it off, there are three platforms and two diving boards that land in an 18 foot pool!

I think we will be spending a lot of time here, especially as our little backyard pool will be very difficult to keep clean.  It's already murky and with gross film on the bottom of the pool, and we aren't sure what the best way is to deal with it.  So big pool here we come!

Leiden is learning how to french braid hair, and tonight I was her guinea pig.  I think she did a really great job, especially considering it was wet and a couple days out from clean!

It was declared that two braids were easier than one!

Happy Fathers Day!

Our purple cherry tomatoes are looking awesome this morning!  They are this gorgeous rich purple color...and not a muddy purple, a bright violet purple!

With Jon's hand for perspective!

We went up to my parents' house this afternoon to spend some time with my dad.  He is such a wonderful man to have as a father.  I love him so much and feel privileged to be his daughter!

The girls made Jon some little key chains out of shrinky dink plastic, but I completely forgot to take a picture of them!

Lake Mary Hike

There is still much snow in the mountains, but we decided we would head up for a hike today to a summit above Lake Mary.  It was absolutely gorgeous!  This was where we were headed, but as we approached the lake, it was clear there was too much snow, and it melty and rotten, for us to safely make the trek.

The lake looked lovely, as mountain lakes do, and it was ringed in ice!

We wanted to go around and go a bit further up on the side where there was less snow, but that meant climbing a fence and honestly going where we weren't exactly authorized to go!  Of course there is only proof and evidence that *I* did it...Jon would be in the clear!

And just like that, out of the trespass area!

Yay!

It was a glorious morning, with white snow, bright green growing things, and the deep blue sky and water.

From the side, there was quite the view of the valley below, but we still weren't able to make it much higher.  This side had far less snow, but we would have had to scramble up a considerable scree to reach the top.

On the way back down, hiking through the snow fields, I had a hard time maintaining upright posture!  Which seems to be par for the course for me!  I slid down most of this hill on my backside.

I am doing some drill work for an order I have to finish this week with block lettering, and I love how the letters all look marching across the page.  This is a large order, and I'm a bit nervous about its completion.

After a hike, a carb night is always in order.  We headed downtown to Bruges Waffles and Frites.  While we were waiting for our waffles, we spotted this woman having dinner with her macaw companion on the chair next to her.  Everyone who walked by stopped and ooohed and ahhhhed.  It really was a beautiful bird.

Waffles were delicious, and it was a fun date night after a fun date day!!

Mac Musings

Mac created these drawings yesterday at her therapist's office while she waited for us to talk without her.  The Etch A Sketch castle was particularly well done!  Those things are hard to draw with!

The other magnetic drawing board is a little easier to use.  I love the little glimpses into her head.
