Pool Time!!

Mimi had in her backpack this DARLING little book about fractions.  She had made it at school, but forgotten about it.  Each successive smaller fraction corresponds to a super cute little animal in her book.  First we have the ladybug for halves.

A little piggy with super cute ears for thirds.

A pretty little butterfly to show fourths.

The cutest fish I've ever seen for fifths.

A fat little mouse and cheese for sixths.

It jumped to two skinny little mice for eighths.

This bird complicated things a little...it's eighths, too, with a 1/2 for its body, 1/4 for its head, 1/8 for its tail, and 2 1/16ths for its beak!  Very clever idea and I like that they are more than just a circle with lines drawn to show different divisions.

We have been thinking about getting the girls a bigger pool for the backyard to avoid the fighting that usually occurs with the tiny baby one.  We would have loved to put a hard side 3 ft pool in, but there's no way the landlord would have given permission.  So today we prepared a decent sized 10 ft pool!  We lined the concrete in the back with tarp, and got to work inflating it.

Luckily I have a couple electric pumps, because even they were taking forever to inflate the pool walls.

Finally they were full, and it was time for the hose!

The hose means COLD!!

The girls were very excited and Leiden had a friend come over.

Then of course came the dares to fully submerge!  Each of the girls actually did it!

They all came up gasping and laughing from the cold.  Somehow what WASN'T pictured was Jon's and my submersion!  We too subjected ourselves to the freezing cold water.  Invigorating!

Hopefully this will give the girls another activity this summer to keep them busy and behaving!
