Zada had full reign of the house as we are trying to get ready for tomorrow and all our Gravenstreter guests!

For the past week, Jon has had cream culturing with a buttermilk inoculation so we can enjoy cultured butter with our feast tomorrow.  The cultured cream has to be at exactly the right temperature before beginning to churn.

Once reached, he used the tiny dinky food processor that came with our immersion blender to do it in batches.  We have wanted a large food processor for years, and we finally got one!  Then, it was delayed in delivery, and that delay gave Jon more time to research and get one he liked better.  But that also meant we had to use the tiny one for this project, which was sad.

But it still worked!  I was surprised the blades separate out the whey as well as they do.

After processing, the butter and whey is poured into a cheesecloth lined bowl

and wrung out to remove as much of the whey as possible.  In hindsight, Jon would have preferred to squeeze out the whey in smaller batches, but he just did one.

And an immediate ice bath to harden the butter solids, and into the fridge it goes!  It was still a little wet with whey, and the taste was still a little tart, so next time he will definitely squeeze in batches, but it tastes really good!

I went outside to check on my snow cooling turkey brine, and heard what I thought were an enormous number of geese.  I called Jon out, and we could see them flying in huge groups up in the sky, and Jon thought they were actually egrets.  They just kept circling in the sky before finally winging their way south in formation.

My brine was finally ready, and in the (expensive, all natural, free range) turkey went to sit overnight.

I managed to get the giant bucket in the garage fridge with only a little drippy spill, so that was a success!

Miss Zada was at her leisure this evening, with her feet up, and pointing at the things she wanted.  She is such a funny little child.  She brings such joy to all of us.

Black Friday!  Little Zada helped dad do some online shopping today.

Best of all, we met everyone at Original Pancake House for a brunch!

It is a yearly tradition to go out today and eat together, and it's so fun!

Driving home from brunch it was snowing, and they were the biggest, fattest flakes I think I've ever seen.  It felt so cozy to know we were on our way home to relax.

Well, except for Mimi!  I ran an errand and came back to Mimi doing some heavy lifting in the front yard.  What a sweet little helpful girl!

Jon did some heavy lifting as well!  The Christmas tree came out today.  I'm a little sad because we are thinking just lights on the tree this year to avoid temptation for Miss Zada.  We've never had just a light tree, despite me and my mom talking about how it would be so much easier!  Until now.

Zada was enthralled with the tree lights.

and performed a thorough inspection before Jon put them up.

After the tree was up, I played memory with the girls while enjoying the lights!

Only lights will take a bit of getting used to!

It's Thanksgiving!!  And the snow is finally coming down!  We were disappointed all day yesterday as the storm kept getting downgraded and pushed back.  We had hoped for the 5 inches that were originally forecast, but today is looking snowy!

We spent most of the day up at Grandmere and Bapa's house, where it HAD snowed around 8 inches!  Zada got all bundled up, and as Jon was zipping her up, she just kind of leaned back into the table.  She was very reminiscent of the little guy in A Christmas Story!

She looked darling all ready to go outside!

But once outside, she was quite unsure.  She had trouble staying upright in the snow.

And made no attempts to get back up once she went down!

She only lasted for a couple minutes, but the other girls had a great time.  They were outside for probably over an hour.

When Zada came in it was turkey turning time!  We remembered we took a picture of her with the turkey last year, too, and figured we would continue with the tradition.

They spent their time participating in a snowman contest.  Leiden's was an alien snowman, which was hilarious.

Mimi's was a germ snowman!

And Mac's was a traditional snowman, complete with a snowy top hat!

We relaxed inside!

Mom set a lovely table, as per usual.

The afternoon was spent in much anticipation for the feast ahead.

Zada sported her turkey bib, and enjoyed playing with the magnetic tiles and running along the couches in the den.  I think every child who has ever been to my mom's house has run along those couches!

It's almost feast time!

I caught Mad taste testing the turkey and he gave it two thumbs up.

Miss Zada's first real Thanksgiving meal!  She was only marginally interested.  She didn't like anything I thought she would like, really just some plain mashed potatoes and a roll.

We were 17 strong, so there was the dining room table,

and the fun table!

Our delicious feast was topped off with my homemade pies.  The new crust recipe I tried was excellent!

Zada did so well to day with interacting with everyone.  She adores Thomas, but today she allowed Mad and Dad to hold her with minimal fuss!

We tallied up the thankful tree leaves before bed.  It's really fun to look back and see what the girls are thankful for.

I am thankful for this family of mine, thankful for all the many blessings Heavenly Father has seen fit to bestow on me and my family.  We are grateful!

Today was pie day!  Last night I combined the ingredients for pumpkin pie filling, but today I baked it, and made the sweet potato pie filling, and did the apple pie from the ground up!  I wanted to do a diamond pattern on the apple pie, so out came the pizza cutter and my rotary ruler!

It wasn't quite how I thought it would be...it would work better on a more flat pie, or a softer filling like cherry, but it still looked pretty good!

It FINALLY started snowing, so it was a cozy afternoon all around.

Leiden wanted to go outside with bub and take some pictures.  I got some really great ones.

Mac came out to see the snowflakes so we got a couple with her too.  Zada was not sold on her hat.

I can't believe tomorrow is Thanksgiving!
