Florida 2009, Day 1: Kennedy Space Center

So our first day in Orlando, we had some time in the afternoon before we could even check in to our hotel room, so we wandered down to the Kennedy Space Center. Really a very cool place. Not so much for the girls, but cool for us. When we got there, the park was only open for 2 more hours, so we missed the giant tour that would have been REALLY cool. It involves taking you out on buses to the big hangar where they keep rockets, and out to the launching pad, and you get to really see some cool stuff.

Anyway, we still got to look around a bit, and they've got real stuff everywhere.

There was a 3D movie about the moon that was cool, except Mac doesn't do well with sitting still.

But she thought the glasses were pretty cool!
This only kind of worked.
They have a big shuttle that they've cleaned out and you can go right in it and see the living spaces for astronauts and the giant empty spaces where they would put cargo--probably 10 times the size of the living space! But I guess the shuttle that just landed a few days ago in California took something like 8 tons of supplies and cargo to the International Space Station. SO COOL!
Here's the outside of the shuttle they have to walk through.
Rocket field. We think they're real--or they've done a great job of making them look real!
I think this was the most fun part for Leiden.
It really is fascinating.

Next up, Day 2 at the beach!
