I discovered, through the fabulous encyclopedia that is the internet, that you can literally use a nib and holder to calligraphy the resist onto paper! You have to thin it out with just a bit of water, but then it works wonderfully, just like ink. Even the tiniest little hairline upstrokes of resist medium keep the watercolor off, so I'm imagining some pretty cool applications for my shop!
