California Day 1: Yosemite National Park

First day in Yosemite!!  Here we are with the whole Yosemite Valley behind us, right after you drive out of the tunnel on the Wawona Road.  So majestic!  Today is about scouting around, scoping out the status of the park.  We came somewhat prepared to hike Half Dome tomorrow, but we are here really early in the season, and may not be able to because of snow.

The famed Bridal Veil Falls

The falls and rivers are all engorged and fast flowing right now with the spring run off beginning.  The waterfalls all begin to look much the same, but this is Yosemite Falls from a bit of a distance.

Heavenly Father's creations are so incredible.  On the short hike we saw ENORMOUS rocks that have fallen from the enormous mountains...the rocks dwarf me, and they're just laying there.  Can you imagine the booming it would have made rumbling down the mountain!?

Jon and I in Half Dome Village, with Half Dome looming behind us.  Tomorrow it appears we will be able to get most of the way there.  There are reports of ice and snow on the face with the cables, and they are still down for the winter season.  The more Jon talks about this hike, the more it worries me!

Over in the Happy Isles, we wandered around this evening, amazed at the fearsome water flow of the Merced River as it shoots into Yosemite Valley.  Behind me is another view of Half Dome.

The sun hasn't set, but when you're right inside mountain valleys, it isn't shining directly on you, which makes for a very comfortable evening by the water.

The video captures some of the NOISE the water makes as it barrels by.

Although the giant sequoia groves are a few hours away from here, you can still see some giant trees.

Jon loves being out here, and feels affinity for many plants...especially giant trees!

Gosh, I love this guy.

Tomorrow?  Half Dome!!!
