California Day 4: Yosemite part 2

Back to Yosemite again today!  We are still so sore from Half Dome, and tired from all the driving.

Jon found a pine cone from a sequoia, which is awesome.  Maybe there are little seeds that can be salvaged there!

We had seriously overestimated our fitness levels, and our energy levels...we had come hoping to also hike El Capitan, and that simply was NOT going to happen!  It was a lovely cloudy and rainy day, so we braved the rain and wandered through the forest to its base.  It was somewhat of a path, and people had built cairns at many of the twists and turns.  Jon tried his hand at building one for us at the base.

It would have been really cool to summit El Capitan, too, but not only were we extremely sore from Half Dome, we also suspected there would be a lot of ice and snow on that trail, too, making it dangerous and arduous.  Well, more so than normal!

But Jon couldn't leave without climbing El Capitan!

He struck quite the pose!

He is an admirer and lover of plants and will stop often on hikes to look more closely at what he sees.

Also to take pictures!

He snatched one of me trying my own hand at building a cairn.

As we headed out of the park, we went further down a road we hadn't gone down, and found these beautiful "Creeks".  With the snow melt they were quite rapidly moving rivers, but they were beautiful.  Jon said they reminded him of Korea.  First up was Cascade Creek.

Then just a short distance down the road was Tamarack Creek.

They both went under the road and combined on the other side to run down the valley together.

We head home tomorrow...it has been such a fun trip.
