If You Like Pina Coladas...

Happy Cinco de Mayo! All week I have been so excited about cooking for today. I attempted homemade carnitas--which turned out delicious, on homemade tortillas--which turned out a bit tough (I always over-work them.), homemade guacamole--which was good, but a bit bland, homemade caramel flan--which was awesome, and store bought pina coladas--which are always tasty.

Mimi doesn't really care what I'm cooking, as long as she gets to eat some. She contented herself with sucking her thumb while clutching her blankie on the floor while the smells of pork carnitas drifted through the house. Leiden had dance class tonight, so we ate later.

She got tired of that, so she found Brad's old, rather mucky outside working shoes, and paraded around the house with them on her hands. It's blurry, but funny.

The guacamole looked great, just was lacking a bit of flavor. Salt helped. And I still ate a ton.

The tortilla dough is always so deceiving. It looks lovely, and then the tortillas turn out tough. It's why I usually pay for them at the store.

Mimi kept with the south of the border theme, running around with Mac's sunglasses on. On her neck.

The carnitas were awesome. I love pork shoulder. And who would have thought to put cinnamon in the braising liquid? Glad David Lebovitz did. Also in keeping with today's festivities, we are thrilled to announce the girls' Halloween costumes for this year: the three amigos. Brad's off the charts excited about this. Really too excited.
