Puppies

Every time we ask Leiden what she wants for her birthday, she says she wants a real puppy. Well. Unfortunately, that's not going to happen--at least not this birthday. We try to explain to her that a puppy would be an enormous amount of work, and that it's not like a new toy, that you can play with for a few days, and then put downstairs in the closet when you get tired of it. She insists she would take care of it, and we tell her we have no desire to. Not now.

So, when our neighbor's granddaughter came over with her new little Yorkie puppy, Leiden was thrilled. Mac vascillated between kind of manic laughter...

and being scared and running the opposite direction.

And we're back to manic laughter.

Leiden thought he was so cute. He was.

Mimi was terrified of the little thing, and granted, they are frisky and jumpy. Even when I was holding her, if the dog came up to us, she would try to climb up my side.

Enjoy, Leiden, this is the closest you'll get for a while!

Mimi finally stopped freaking out about the dog and went to go play with her ball. Or her 'da' as she calls it.

It's one of those times you wish you could say yes, but you know that it's not a good idea. But we have a hard time resisting this face.

After our strange day at church yesterday, we were horrified to see the aftermath of the terrible tornado in Joplin, MO. While grateful for the safety we enjoyed, and glad to have something different and interesting happen at church, we are keeping in our prayers those who have been less fortunate these last 24 hours. And I think I'll take my kids downstairs every. single. time. I. hear. the. sirens.
