Croissants and Pain au Chocolat

Brad came home a man with a mission.  He ate pain au chocolat every single morning in his English hotel.  (?)  He thought it would be so awesome to make his own.  So he dedicated all of today to the task.  Because you have to dedicate about 8 hours to it.  Broken up into increments, of course, but 8 hours.  He made both croissants and pain au chocolat (dough is the same, just rolled differently--and chocolate in the little pains au chocolat, of course).  Here they are being taken out of the oven, 10 minutes late for a dinner party at a friends'.

They were very good, although the texture was a little different.  They tasted exactly as they should, but were just missing a little bit of the flakiness and layers they should have.  While it was a rousing success, as far as first attempts at advanced French baking go, Brad has decided he isn't going to be making them again.  He'd rather buy them.  But now he knows, and now I've got frozen croissant and pain au chocolat in my freezer, just waiting to rise and be baked!

It may be easier to buy and bake, but Brad has now acquired a talent never to be lost. Riding a bike comes to mind (oops sorry Sade).
