Michigan Day 10--Lighthouse

Storms were forecast today, so we headed to Lighthouse Rock to see if we could catch some waves hitting the concrete.  We totally did!

You have to walk out along a long dock, then finally reach the giant lighthouse.  When you walk past it on the concrete to the edge, the waves come in hard enough to wet you completely.  They break against the concrete barrier hard, and the spray goes way up into the sky.

Jon and I held each other and let the water hit us.  It was cold, but super exhilarating to be out in the storm.

After being completely soaked, it was time to head back.

As the waves got bigger, they would crash over the concrete and slosh over it entirely.

During one of the waves, I went to step aside and my flip flop came off and was lost to the lake!!  There was nothing to be done but head back without my flip flop!  Luckily this was the last day of the trip and not earlier on!

While we were in town shopping, we found a little jewelry shop where we saw these beautiful earrings made of Michigan Copper.  They were partly oxidized and partly polished, so this lovely mix of turquoise and bright copper.  Jon purchased them for me...a far better souvenir than a cheap t-shirt!!
