Michigan Day 4

Sleeping Bear Dunes today!  We were pleased to add another generation of family pictures taken here at this look out.

There was NO way I was going to be able climb back up the dunes in my condition, so I stayed at the top with Gail and Tara, but Jon and Noel took the girls all the way down, and they all made it back up!  There is almost no way to accurately depict how FAR it is down, and how STEEP the grade is they have to climb back up in the sand.  I was proud of them!  Mac said, "It's not worth it when you can just drive 5 minutes to the beach!"  We countered that it's a once-a-vacation activity!  EMS was in fact called there today to help some people at the bottom.  I'm  not exactly sure what they can do down there, though, unless a helicopter is involved!

Later this evening, on our way home to cook dinner we stopped at the southern Frankfort pier because the wind was such that the waves were ridiculous on that side.

Leiden and Mimi weren't interested in getting wet again with it being later and cooler, but Mac and Jon headed out to the bend with Tara.  They were heading right into the sunset and the light was super filtered through the clouds, making for some cool photographic opportunities.  There were far fewer people on this side than on the other.  We saw a couple, but we were largely the only people there as the sun sank.

This was another instance of Jon being super sensitive and aware of the girls.  This was really good for Mac because the waves the other day at the lighthouse really turned her off.  She and Jon emerged triumphant through what seemed like walls of water, and I am grateful for Tara’s pictures while I stayed back!  A good experience was just the thing  for Mac after her scare, and I'm grateful Jon recognized this.  She came back exuberant and soaking wet!

These two photos were taken one after the other.  Jon stood holding Mac as the waves were coming in, and Tara caught that sweet moment, as well as the dashing they got a moment later as the wave came upon them.  I hope Tara’s phone is okay after all the spray!
It was a wonderful end to our adventuring today.
