Michigan Day 7

Today was check out day for the house, so we spent hours this morning packing, cleaning and getting ready to hit the beach one more time before leaving for Detroit tonight.  The house was really great to stay at, and we enjoyed being comfortable there and being so close to the things we wanted to do.  The girls left this cute note for the owners.

We headed to the beach for a last few hours in the water, and Jon spent a lot of time snorkeling with the girls.

I love this picture of Leiden walking down the pier.

This was probably the longest they spent snorkeling.  I think they liked being out there with Jon.

Instead of hanging out on the beach, I made sure I was sunscreened and I came and watched from the pier.

The girls got tired but Jon kept going and going, all the way out to the lighthouse outside the breakwaters.  He saw some awesome fish and really enjoyed checking something off his bucket list!  He kept surfacing and putting his fingers as far apart as the fish he’d just seen.
He’s wanted to do that for years.

Mimi and I slowly walked along the pier keeping pace with him for safety.  She is such a funny girl.  She was very concerned that Jon was safe, and was worried he would be SO tired.
He WAS pretty tired by the time he got out at the lighthouse, but enthusiastic about his accomplishment.

I was pretty ridiculous and didn't get a picture of him out past the breakers near the lighthouse, but I promise he was out there!

Last minute shenanigans...another bucket list item for Jon...slow motion video of him doing a gainer!  Mac was excited to learn a new word!

I am so grateful.  I haven't been able to give the girls anything like this until now.  A fun family trip to a really great place that also has meaning.  Most of Jon's family vacations growing up included lake trips, and I'm glad that the girls finally got a lake vacation too!

This time Leiden benefited from the girls' mermaid design!

After the girls swam and played in the sand in a relaxing last afternoon on this phase of the trip, we headed out.  We had a 4 hour drive down to Detroit, and we got on the road a bit later than we had hoped.  The side mirror was our last glimpse of the fun at Lake Michigan.  The drive was blessedly uneventful, and we made it to our hotel room near GGG's house and hit the sack.  Emotions were a little high at the late hour, but we finally got everyone settled.
