Tonsils!

Mac.  Poor, sweet, little Mac.  She has been complaining of a sore throat daily for a good long while, now.  We had been to the pediatrician multiple times for strep cultures, and kept getting negative results.  Finally, he referred us to an ENT, whom we visited today.  He checked out her throat, and said he couldn't see much wrong with it, but that that didn't mean anything.  He said in most cases like this, he goes by history.  Dry cough.  Complaining of sore throat.  Waking in the night with sore throat.  Check, check, check.  So, easy as that, he recommended a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy.  She has been snoring, too, off and on, and not just when she has a cold, which I understand is not normal for young children.  They should be pretty much quiet while they sleep.  Well.  I guess we exchange bunches of little sore throats for one giant, weeks long one, and then hopefully we're done.  I feel good about it.  I'm not looking forward to the recovery, which I understand can be rough, but we can do this.  I just pray that it helps the problems she has had.  They say to expect a 5-10 pound weight loss(!!!), and all sorts of other things...her voice to change temporarily, potential bleeding, very potential dehydration.  Lots of just great stuff.  Well, they will call us in a day or two to schedule the surgical center, and we'll be off.  She will miss 2 full weeks of school and soccer, and will have to watch her activity carefully until she is given the clear to be active again.  Here we go!
